Diversity & Equity/Equality

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy BACP offers a collective understanding of ethical and professional practice. As an accredited member, as well as a conscientious practitioner I go beyond that stated within the Equality Act (2010). This Act, works to ensure equal treatment and fortification from discrimination by protecting characteristics that relate to religion, belief, age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnerships, pregnancy and maternity, race, sex or sexual orientation, see - Equality Act.

My responsibility is to gain understanding that can help me follow and track you within your environment. It is therefore important for me to know where I place value (due to my lived experience and characteristics). Also to understand how society may place worth or discriminate, influencing you and your relationships.

It is my responsibility to educate myself on what I do not have enough knowledge on. Accordingly, I partake in continued professional development (CPD) to revisit, and learn more on client characteristics and concerns. I work to take myself out of my own bubble in order to meet what I am not aware of within myself.  This includes, but isn’t limited to understanding the impact of social deprivation, differing abilities, and neo-conventional family structures. Thus, numerous structural, political, and representational intersections. Including differences, and knowledge on discrimination based upon race and ethnicity; in particularly global-majority clients, in a white majority demographic. Awareness of Gender, Sexuality, Relationship, Diversity (GSRD) in a heteronormative promoted climate. Neurodivergence, such as Autism in a neurotypically structured society.   Accordingly, as an inclusive practitioner I aim to support you within your diversity and provide adjustments to facilitate your access to sessions.
